Just a little note about Carl & Ellen, who are the passion behind this day of baseball and ovarian cancer awareness...They have been family friends of my family since I was a little girl. Ellen and my brother, Chip, have been friends for as far back as I can remember! We hadn't seen them in many years because of ...life...but as with true friends, it never matters the time in between seeing each other...it all melts into a day...
Ellen has ovarian cancer and was '"blinged" by a friend...When Ellen read Operation Bling's story, she said, "I know these people! I went to their wedding!"
Operation Bling is encircling our small world!
Please go to the baseball game this weekend and enjoy!

George Sloane's Victory Blood Drive!
George Sloane is a Bling Recipient AND has been a customer and friend of ours at Ferdinand Jewelers forever! George was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in October 2008. It was George's daughter, Lynda, who had nominated Operation Bling for a grant from the organization "One Hundred Women Making A Difference"! (We did not get it, but no worries there!) While she is relieved that her Dad is doing so well these days, Lynda has been determined to make a difference in her father's behalf by replenishing the 29 bags of blood that he needed during the early stages of his treatment. Lynda also has a soft spot in her heart for Operation Bling because she witnessed how one small gesture of being "blinged" could restore a sense of normalcy to their lives when they seemed perennially turned upside down.
George's family is sponsoring a blood drive through the American Red Cross -- which they have called the George Sloane Victory Blood Drive -- Here are some details...
Date: Saturday, August 22, 2009
Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm
Place: The New Providence Fire Department
175 Floral Avenue
New Providence, NJ 07974
For your convenience, appointments can be made by signing up online at:
Although the Sloanes know that August is a huge vacation month, they are having their blood drive in August because they have learned that blood banks' greatest needs arise during the summer months. They are confident that their family and friends will rise to the occasion and help them ensure that there is a ready supply of greatly needed donations in the notoriously slow donation period.
As per the family's request, Operation Bling will also be at the George Sloane Victory Blood Drive selling Bling Gifts and accepting donations to Operation Bling in George's honor!
See you there! Remember, "The need for blood is ongoing. The supply isn't"

It's "Mr." Bling Angel to you!!!
I recently assigned Gilbert Baez of Morristown Memorial to "bling" someone...anyone he thought could use a lift...so he, as an administrator...could experience the full circle of Operation Bling! He chose a Bling Gift, was off to his next meeting and knew he now needed to find a recipient and report back to me! I received this email from him this morning!....."I love Blinging...what a rewarding experience to give someone a gift during a bad time in their lives. Last week I gave it to a patient who was complaining about parking following her treatment...it stopped the complaints right away and brought a smile to both of our faces! Thanks again for such a wonderful program...

A Bling Blog!
The Power Of Bling!
To date, Operation Bling Foundation has supplied between Morristown Memorial Hospital, Overlook Hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center, The Summit Medical Group and the American Cancer Society's West Orange office a total of 2027 Bling Gifts to be given for free to their oncology patients!!! That is simply FANTASTIC!
The Power Of Prayer!
If a recipient wants to be included on our prayer list, we list their first name online... we have a whole bunch of different churches of all different denominations praying for them...(If you see last names on our online prayer list it is because the person entered it themselves) I also personally pray for each name on our list every morning! I have 932 people on my own Bling prayer list! Please,if you are so inclined, please keep Operation Bling Foundation's recipients and their family and friends in your thoughts and prayers!
Grant For Change
My son, Peter, nominated me to Nau.com for Operation Bling. If awarded this grant, Operation Bling could receive $10,000! Thank you Pete for believing in your Mom!
You can go to this hyperlink to check it out. Nau.com wants to know what our friends think. Rate the nominees, and rally others to do the same. We have until August 31st, then Nau.com will pick the public's Top Five, add them to their own Top Five, et voila, they have their Top Ten Finalists.
You ALL are already instrumental in getting Operation Bling to where we are in such a short time...imagine what $10,000 could do!!! THANK YOU!
